HAAC Honour Roll 2008
HALTON HONOURS EXCELLENCE IN THE SKILLED TRADES WITH 2008 HONOUR ROLL EVENT
Halton, ON - On May 14, 2009 the Halton Apprenticeship Advisory Council (HAAC) hosted Honour Roll 2008, an annual event that recognizes leadership in the skilled trades across Halton Region. This year's event, which took place at the Burlington Convention Centre, continued the tradition of honouring employers who demonstrate vision in advancing skilled trades excellence. Businesses of all sizes were honoured with awards, celebrating their commitment to community needs.
This year's Honour Roll award recipients were:
- Bratin Auto Muffler Ltd. (Georgetown)
- Laker Energy Products Ltd. (Burlington)
- North Star Electric (Oakville)
Award for Companies with 50 or more employees
- Tandet NationaLease Ltd. (Oakville)
- Permacon Group (Milton)
Award for Companies outside of Halton Region
- BMP Metals Inc. (Brampton)
Awards for Companies with less than 50 employees
The HAAC Honour Roll 2008 program also featured a special presentation recognizing the achievements of Halton students at the 2009 Ontario Skills Olympics, who took home 15 medals at the event. Gail Smyth, Executive Director of Skills Canada - Ontario, also gave an informative presentation on the upcoming World Skills Olympics taking place in Calgary this September.
Keynote speaker Tim Glover, Chief Strategy Officer & Co-founder of Value Profit Group, delivered an enlightening presentation on the opportunities emerging within the new economy for those who have the insight to integrate strong technical and creative skills with relevant technology.
The program was rounded out by a presentation highlighting Burlington Central High School's journey to the FIRST Robotics Competition in Boston. Currently, there are 1,683 FIRST Robotics teams across the world with 57 teams in Ontario and 6 from Halton.
