The Ministry of Education Announces Experiential Learning Week

Experiential learning opportunities help young people acquire valuable knowledge, skills and experience. In order to recognize and celebrate these opportunities - and the employers that make them possible - the Ministry of Education and the Hon. Leona Dombrowsky, Ontario Minister of Education, have designated November 22, 2010 to November 26, 2010 as Experiential Learning Week. Click on the above video to hear from Minister Dombrowsky about this new initiative.

This week-long campaign, being celebrated across the province, will showcase the many successful connections between employers, teachers and students that have been made with the support of the Passport to Prosperity program and provincial database EmployerRegistry.ca. To kick off the first annual Experiential Learning Week a variety of events are being held across the province, including the Halton Industry Education Council's (HIEC) Fall Breakfast with the Mayors.

This year's Fall Breakfast with the Mayors is on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at RattleSnake Point Golf Club in Milton, from 7:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Hosts Mayor Rick Bonnette of Halton Hills and Mayor Gordon Krantz of Milton will bring greetings and speak about their own unique perspectives on the importance of experiential learning. To bring added perspective, a panel made up of local students and employers will share personal success stories from their experiential learning experiences.

Rounding out the program is keynote speaker Ryan Porter, a dynamic young professional who shows students, as well as, adults how to create an exciting future through their experiences. His presentation "Make Your Own Lunch®" will showcase the many experiential learning opportunities Halton has to offer, and why these are so important in our community.
